1. We want to exalt Christ. Now that we're engaged, the impending reality of marriage is coming slowly into focus for both of us. Marriage is a unique and beautifully Christ-glorifying institution. The parallels that the marriage covenant shares with Christ's covenant with His church are designed to bring glory to Jesus and we are excited to partake in that. At the same time, however, the process of planning for marriage can turn into a very self-centered exercise. "What is OUR wedding going to be like?". "What are WE going to do with the rest of our lives?". "What will be best for US?". These questions and many others like it, though entirely legitimate, threaten to make our relationship about us and not Christ. We hope that this blog will be a constant reminder to ourselves and all of you about the supremacy of Christ in all things.
2. We want to be an encouragement to the church through our shared lives. As Christians, our goal in life is not to get engaged, get married, and then live in a fancy house and never talk to anyone ever again. Our desire for this relationship is that God would use it to expand His kingdom and to serve others. Of course, there are plenty of ways to do this besides blogging. But, there are a lot of people to encourage and limited time for both of us. We hope that this blog will be a way for us to encourage people that we may not be able to otherwise see in the midst of our busy schedules.
3. We want you to be aware of the circumstances surrounding our decision to get married. It has been a challenge getting to where we are now as a young engaged couple and there are even greater tests awaiting us in our future together. Thankfully, God has been gracious to us amidst all these challenges. Over the past year we have experienced so much of God's provision, both physically and spiritually, made all the more visible because of trials. Facebook pictures just cannot convey completely how God has been working in our lives. We want to share with you about how we've gotten here so that you can see the grace and faithfulness of God in our lives and praise Him for it.
4. We need prayer! Vanessa and I are both sinners in need of grace. As we share with you about what God is doing in our lives, please pray for us!
Certainly, God will use our relationship and this blog in whatever way He sees fit. We can only hope that you will be encouraged as we share with you!
